Started in 2017 by Jim and Angela Callahan, the Veterans Day Classic’s mission was three-fold:

1.  To Honor all veterans, notably those that participate in the VDC as well as our veteran friends who are no longer with us. 

2.  To generate donations to support local veteran organizations as well as provide funding for local community organizations in need.

3.  To have one/two days of fun and camaraderie by all who participate while honoring our veterans.

 

The Golf Event has grown since its humble beginnings and over the past nine years has donated over $153,000 to local Veteran and Community organizations.

 

In 2026, Jim and Angela decided to step back from the day-to-day organization and planning of the event.  John (USCG veteran) & Rita Lang, who had been involved in several charity causes prior to moving to Calabash, recognized the importance that the Veterans Day Classic had provided and offered to take over the day-to-day planning and management of the 2026 event (and beyond).  The rest as they say is history and we’re off and running with the 9th year of the Veterans Day Classic …
